In 2015, just three weeks after the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal, the chief of our porters from Palep contacted Norbu and shyly asked for help. Without hesitation, Andrea and Norbu traveled to the village two days later, bringing relief supplies for 136 affected families.
While providing emergency assistance, one urgent concern remained — the children’s education. With the school damaged and learning interrupted, Andrea and Norbu quickly began planning a temporary solution. Within days, a provisional school rebuilding project was launched. Several hundred kilograms of metal sheets were transported from a nearby town and used to construct temporary classrooms, allowing the children to return to their studies as soon as possible.
The school operated under these temporary structures until we received wonderful news: Grégoire Comina generously committed to supporting the construction of a new, permanent school building.
After completing the necessary administrative procedures with the Government of Nepal and finalizing plans with the official engineer, construction officially began. The first brick was laid with hope and determination.
Soon, a two-floor school building with a small sanitary annex was completed, ready to welcome 60 children into a safe and inspiring learning environment — marking the beginning of a new educational journey.
One year later, Gilbert and Mathilde traveled to Palep to further support the school by building new benches and desks, ensuring that the children had comfortable and proper furniture to continue their education.
