In 2014, Norbu tragically lost his best friend during a Himalayan expedition. Witnessing the family’s suffering, particularly the financial struggles of the widow, deeply impacted him. After a dinner with friends in Switzerland, Norbu realized that the amount spent in the restaurant could be used to support scholarships for children from impoverished families in Nepal. Thus, in early 2015, Butterfly Help Project Switzerland was born, with Norbu’s best friend’s child being the first beneficiary. This marked just the beginning of our journey. Since then, Butterfly Help Project has provided support to the following children:
- Two children at Namche’s “Home Away Home” hostel
- Three children at Khumjung’s Khumbila Hostel
- Four children at Ghunsa’s school hostel
- Three children in Kathmandu (one from our driver, one from our cook, and one from one of our porters)
These children are selected from families facing severe financial hardship. They include single mothers struggling to make ends meet and families with multiple children residing in Kathmandu, where the cost of living is high and financial resources are limited.
