A Home of Hope and Learning
Nestled in the serene hills of Taplejung, Lungthung Hostel—run by the Butterfly Help Project (BHP)—continues to serve as a safe, caring, and nurturing home for children from remote mountain communities. Despite challenges such as harsh weather, rugged terrain, and limited resources, the hostel has grown into a vibrant center of learning, growth, and hope.
The Beginning: Phase 1
The Lungthung Hostel Project began with Phase 1 as a one-year pilot program, aimed at creating a nurturing residential space where children could learn, grow, and thrive. Launched with the goal of uplifting children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the hostel offered full-time accommodation, nutritious meals, tuition support, and a strong foundation in both academic and personal development. These efforts were closely tied to Shree Lungthung Basic School, also established by BHP, where all the children receive their formal education.

Reflections on Our Journey: Impact on Students
Over the past year, our work at Lungthung Hostel has been an inspiring and transformative experience. Providing a safe, structured, and caring environment for children from remote Himalayan communities has made a profound difference in their lives.
We’ve seen remarkable growth in the children—not just academically, but also emotionally and socially. Their school attendance has become regular, their learning habits have improved, and they are more confident, disciplined, and eager to participate in both classroom and extracurricular activities.
Living together in a supportive setting has helped them build strong friendships, develop life skills, and experience a sense of belonging they may not have had before. The joy on their faces reminds us why this effort matters.
This journey has shown us that when children are given care, structure, and opportunity, they begin to flourish in every way. It encourages us to continue moving forward—stronger, more hopeful, and more committed than ever.
The Way Forward
With the successful completion of Phase 1, and following a thorough assessment of its positive impact, we are proud to announce the launch of Phase 2—a three-year extension of the Lungthung Hostel Project. This new phase allows us to deepen our support, strengthen our programs, and reach more children in need of care and opportunity.

In Conclusion
Our experience over the past year has clearly shown the profound impact that a safe, supportive environment can have on the lives of children from remote communities. Thanks to the unwavering support of our donor, NORQAIN, Lungthung Hostel has become a place where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding this work, confident that with continued care and opportunity, these young minds will shape a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
