BHP-Phaktanglung Rural Municipality Landslide and Flood Relief Program
In July 2024, heavy rainfall triggered flooding and Landslide in various regions of Nepal, including Phaktanglung Rural Municipality in eastern Nepal. The disaster caused widespread damage to homes and infrasturcture, leaving residents struggling to access basic necessities. The agricultural sector, which forms the backbone of the economy in this district, particularly in ward no. 2 (Khejenim) was hit hard by the devasting Landslide, severly impacting the livelihoods of those dependent on farming; where seven houses were damaged, and tragically, four people lost their lives.
Recognizing the pressing need for immediate assistance in the aftermath of the devastating landslide, we undertook a targeted relief effort to support the affected families and ensure the continuity of education for the children. Our initiative involved distributing essential grocery items, clothing, and educational supplies to those in need. By providing these critical resources, we aimed to address the immediate shortages faced by the families and alleviate the burden on the children, allowing them to focus on their studies despite the disruptions caused by the disaster. This comprehensive support not only helped stabilize the affected households but also contributed to maintaining the children’s educational progress, which is vital for their long-term development and resilience.
Our Landslide relief program aims to provide immediate assistance to the affected families, ensuring access to food, clothing, and essential supplies. Together, we can help the community of Khejenim rise from this disaster and work towards a more resilient future…
